Woolworths – end of an era

Let me wish you all a Happy New Year!

It’s been impossible to not to hear about the end of Woolworths. For many years it has served as the centre point of many town centres, providing a range of products for all ages. Its been going for over 99 years and just closed its last stores this weekend gone. Theo Paphitis, known for his role in the BBC’s Dragons Den was in talks with the store to try and save it – it was not meant to be.

Many of those that passed the stores would have seen the large posters promoting the fact that there was a closing down sale – ‘EVERYTHING MUST GO!’. In the last few hours you could get upto 80% off your shopping… the stores were looking run down with nothing on the shelves and eerily quite… even the display and shelf units were up for sale for some budding shopkeepers.

I picked up a few CD’s. It will be a shame not to enter a ‘woolies’ again. 😦
